FIVE THINGS YOUR BEDROOM NEEDS
Five Things Your Bedroom Needs
Nowhere else to hide? Definitely. Decorated solely for your enjoyment? Obviously, comfortable? Naturally, but what else is necessary for the ideal bedroom?
Add the special touch that will take your bedroom from fine to spectacular by drawing inspiration from these ideas.
- Bedside pendant lights
If you’re thinking about repainting or redecorating your bedroom anytime soon, give this idea a shot.
Wire-in lighting, like pendants or wall lights, will free up your bedside table. In general, that extra space feels more luxurious. Instead of trying to balance a book, phone, and water glass on a lamp base, you can enjoy artfully setting up your table for maximum calm.
It’s also convenient to have all of the controls at your fingertips on the wall. We’ll no longer have to scout for switches on dangling wires just out of our reach as we sleep.
From a licensed electrician, inquire about how disruptive the installation will be. Your room’s electrical layout will play a role in this decision. If you’re lucky, you’ll only have to sand, fill, and repaint a narrow strip of the wall where the new cable is chased in if there are no existing sockets or switches in the way.
Even if you only have breakfast in bed once or twice a year, having a tray with legs comes in handy because you don’t have to worry about balancing a flat tray across your legs or, worse, juggling plates and cups. When not in use, a tray with folding legs will not take up a lot of space.
Even though these are great for holding laptops and tablets, experts recommend keeping them out of our bedrooms for a better night’s sleep, so save your tray for croissants, juices, and coffee.
- Upholstered cubes
If you’ve got a small bedroom, you can’t go wrong with one (or more) of these. An upholstered cube can be used for many purposes, such as a seat for putting on your jeans, a dressing table, or even as a bedside table.
It’s possible to get them in any material you want, including leather, chenille, velvet, or any other material of your choice.
It’s in the bedroom book nook that you’ll keep the books you’ve been meaning to read, the ones you know you’ll read again, and perhaps even the ones you’re reluctant to lend out. It’s possible to fit one in a small bedroom by using over-the-bed shelving, which doesn’t take up any floor space. Creative dead space above the door can be utilized creatively.
Even in larger rooms, you can make use of custom built-in shelving or a display opposite the end of the bed to provide a pleasing view while you sleep.
- Space for storing pillows and blankets
Adding decorative pillows and blankets to a bed during the day is one thing, but dumping them on the floor in the middle of the night is not.
You may not have thought of this, but a dedicated storage ottoman or blanket box may be a novel idea. Use the space under the window instead of the end of the bed if that’s more convenient.
